The Rogue Prince of Persia Enters Early Access on May 14th

I never really thought about it, but now that I’ve seen the trailer, I understand that making a Prince of Persia roguelite game sounds like a great idea. But what would one need to make it work? Well, for one, you’ll need an instantly-recognizable art style, some good music perhaps. However, the most important part is the gameplay – you need it to be fast-paced, exciting and really responsive. Oh, hey, Evil Empire!

The Rogue Prince of Persia Enters Early Access on May 14th

If you don’t know who Evil Empire are, they worked with Motion Twin on a number of Dead Cells DLCs. Granted, that means they were working with a really good base to begin with. However, I’m certain that they’ve also gained a bunch of really valuable experience working on one of the best (if not the best) 2-D roguelite action platformers of all time. If there was one studio Ubisoft should have contracted to make The Rogue Prince of Persia, it’s them.

Now, what is this game all about? Well, much like Dead Cells, it’s a stylish 2-D action platformer with roguelite elements, as you can see from the trailer below. Yes, the first three quarters don’t feature any gameplay, but then it switches to actual game footage. And I have to say, it looks incredible. True, the video doesn’t show that much, but what we do see is plenty to get me excited. It looks like Dead Cells with art inspired by Hades. And I still play both of those games now and then, that’s how much I love them. So, this Prince of Persia should be right up my alley.

The Rogue Prince of Persia will be hitting Steam Early Access on May 14th, 2024. Normally, I tend to avoid games in Early Access, because I prefer playing a complete product. Just a matter of personal taste. However, I might just break the habit for this one. It just looks way too enticing.
