Norse-Themed Horde Survivor Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel Announced

Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is the upcoming Norse-themed horde survivor roguelite developed by Games Farm, with Grindstone acting as publisher. You play as a fallen Viking in the depths of the underworld, and your task is to fight through, well, the hordes of Hel. You summon fearsome bosses to defeat, build your character up with different perks, with the ultimate goal of proving your worth to the gods and (presumably) earning your way out. So, a combo of Vampire Survivors and Hades with a generous dash of Diablo (at least aesthetics-wise). Consider me sold!

Norse-Themed Horde Survivor Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel Announced

So, what will Jotunnslayer have to offer when it launches? Well, for one, it promises “fast-paced battles against hordes of enemies while racing against time.” But before you get to that, you get to choose from “a variety of diverse characters, each with their own unique set of skills, abilities, and weapons.” As you battle the never-ending onslaught of the denizens of Hel, you get to customize your character with “meta-progression systems that offer unlockable perks and upgrades.” These “unlock new abilities, enhancements, and bonuses” over time, allowing you to ultimately build up your perfect, godlike Viking.

However, it’s not the regular monstrosities of Hel that are your main targets, no matter how big and brutish they are. No, those are just for powering your character up by collecting gems they leave behind. What you’re actually trying to do is summon boss monsters and defeat those. Naturally, these will require all your skills and abilities to bring down. And, lest we forget, Jotunnslayer also offers in-run quests that you can complete for extra rewards.

Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel will be entering early access on Steam at some point in autumn 2024. Check out the trailer below to see what the gameplay will look like. And if you like what you see, you can wishlist Jotunnslayer on Steam.
