BG3 Disable Steel Watch Foundry, Zanner Toobin Died or Bugged

The “Disable the Steel Watch” is a quest in Baldur’s Gate 3. In it, you will be tasked with – naturally – making sure that this place is no longer operational. To do this, you’re going to need the help of Zanner Toobin – one of the Gondian-worshiping Gnomes there. However, a certain problem can arise here if he is killed or ran off and is not speaking anymore. Luckily, there are several things that you can do to get around this, even if the corpse is too badly damaged for you to use Speak With Dead on him. If that’s the case, you can get the Runepowder Bomb from Wulbren. Here are all the things to do to complete the Disable the Steel Watch Foundry quest in BG3 even if Zanner Toobin has died or is bugged.

How to Disable Steel Watch Foundry if Zanner Toobin Has Died in Baldur’s Gate 3

So, let’s start with what happens if Zanner Toobin has gone missing. In that case, look for him in the camp. Next, there is also the possibility that he has died during a fight – either by accident through your actions, or by those of the enemy. Regardless of why this has happened, the solutions are the same either way. First, if his body is still intact, you can simply cast Speak With Dead on his corpse to get the information you need.

But what to do if his corpse has been too badly damaged for this method to work? If you try Speak With Dead on him then, you’ll get a message notifying you that this isn’t possible. At this point, you’re no doubt wondering how do I get the Runepowder Bomb if Zanner Toobin is dead and gone. In that case, you have to go and talk to Wulbren. He can be found in his hideout, which is in a cave. Speak with him, and he will give you the Runepowder Bomb that you need to complete this. We have marked the location of his hideout in our screenshot gallery.

BG3 Zanner Toobin Ran Off

It can also happen that Zanner Tobin isn’t dead, and he instead simply ran off somewhere and you can’t seem to find him. If that is the case, he can usually be found in the security office on the first floor. Note that you will probably need to do a long rest before you can talk to him again to have him join you. After that, proceed with the quest as before.

BG3 Zanner Toobin Not Speaking To Me

Another thing that can happen is that Zanner Toobin will outright refuse to talk to you at all. In that case, you should pickpocket him to get his journal. It will provide you with a hint for the code that you need. In any case, the devs have certainly covered all of their bases here – ensuring that you will be able to complete this quest practically no matter what you do. Which is certainly a hallmark of great and well thought out game design and we applaud it.

Toobin is gone. I’ve scoured every inch of the foundry. He’s not there, and neither is his corpse. I’ve tried multiple long rests. He’s not in my camp. I’ve moved camps/regions—still no Toobin. I even stole a runepowder barrel and tried to blow up the neurociter—multiple times, multiple placements (thanks to save scumming). Nothing worked. This issue has become really frustrating at this point.
