Follow Routes Pokemon GO

In our Follow Routes Pokemon GO guide, we are going to explain how this new mechanic works in the game. It’s honestly not that difficult; the only real problem is that the system is relatively new, so many players still don’t know how it works yet. But don’t worry, we’re here to explain everything that you need to know about Routes and how they function. Let’s begin!

How to Follow a Route in Pokemon GO

First, hop into the game and go into the nearby menu. Click the Route tab at the top and then “See Nearby Routes.” This will show you all the Routes in your general vicinity. Pick the one you want to explore and then simply follow where it takes you. Repeat the process as many times as needed. Though, there does appear to be a problem with you getting the “No Routes nearby” message. This is a bug, and if you are wondering what is causing it and if there is something you can do to fix it, we recommend that you read through our Pokemon GO Routes Not Working, No Routes Nearby Issue guide.

And there you go, that’s how you follow Routes. This is needed for the Out to Play event (and its Tails of Adventure Paid Timed Research), where several tasks require you to “Follow a Route”. As we’ve said in the beginning of this guide, Routes are a new mechanic that basically allows Trainers to guide people through areas. If you want to make a Route yourself, go to a PokeStop or Gym that you want to be the starting point. Map the Route from there and then add some info about it. If it passes review, it will then be added to the game, and other Trainers will be able to explore it. I poop on Niantic a lot, so I have to give credit where credit is due: this is a really fun cooperative mechanic. You can find more info on Routes on the official website.
