Cyberpunk 2077 Tapeworm - Talk to Johnny Bug Fix
Cyberpunk 2077 Tapeworm quest is a strange little side job that is crucial for getting better game endings and finding very cool Johnny Silverhand items. It involves no major decisions and is there to further immerse you into the game world and its story. Why are we writing this article then? There seems to be a Cyberpunk 2077 tapeworm bug many people are encountering. CD Projekt Red supposedly fixed this problem with 1.04 patch. Still, we are seeing many people complaining about it. Here are a few tips on what to do if you encounter the Tapeworm quest bug in Cyberpunk 2077 and can’t talk to Johnny.
Cyberpunk 2077 Tapeworm quest bug
Tapeworm quest in Cyberpunk is just four conversations you’ll have with Johnny Silverhand at various stages of the game. They trigger after doing each of the main mission jobs, before you enter end game. The bug that has been bothering people during the Tapeworm quest happens when you leave the Clouds club at the end of Automatic Love. This is the quest where you look for Evelyn Parker. When you start descending the elevator, on your way out of the Clouds, your optical chip should start bugging and you start coughing. On your way out the elevator a cutscene should trigger and you should start talking to Johnny.
Tapeworm bug fix
The first thing to do to fix the Cyberpunk 2077 Tapeworm bug is to apply the official 1.04 patch. One of the patch notes reads as follows: “Fixed an issue with conversation with Johnny not starting after leaving the hotel in Tapeworm.” Second thing you can do is load a previous autosave closest to you finishing your business in the Clouds and heading for the elevator again. If you are further in the game try to go back to megabuilding H8 and find the elevator and then try exiting and entering it and riding it up and down again to see if you can trigger the Johnny conversation. Try doing it at 11pm at night because Automatic Love happens at that time. You can also trigger the cutscene when you do the side quest Ex-Factor with Judy, because you will ride the same elevator as in Tapeworm.
Trigger Chippin’ in quest
Finishing the first conversation with Johnny does not finish the Tapeworm quest. It ends after three more conversations. These happen after the quests Transmission, Life During Wartime and Search and Destroy. Once you have completed all these quests and watched the conversations you will complete the Tapeworm quest. This will automatically start Chippin’ In quest. This is a quest line that leads towards getting Johnny’s Samurai jacket, gun and Porsche 911. Just make sure you were not a complete bastard toward Johnny during these conversations. It is also worth noting that completing Johnny’s storyline will unlock a new ending for you. Having the same issue and when I went back to do it, Johnny was triggered then it crashed my game… Not sure what the issue is here honestly but damn it needs fixed.
This fixed my issue so far. I have done 8 characters, this happened to 2of them. I hate to say it, but if your main story missions disappear, that character is toast. This glitch comes from spamming the “skip ahead” button while in the matrix with Brigitte and the Voodoo boys….where you meet Alt….after that mission is where you are supposed to start Tapeworm..
Just reporting in, same issue as above posters. Can finish tapeworm portion, but then there are no main quests in the journal. It doesn’t prompt a new quest to start.
My issue is, Ive had the conversation with Silverhand in the elevator, no problem. I even worked my way up to Search and Destroy. Which is the mission I’m on now. Currently running on the 1.06 hot fix, been playing since 1.04. And the “Tapeworm” objective isn’t/ hasn’t been on my journal screen. At all.
I’m having this problem but after the transmission quest when I leave the chapel.
I’ve gone back to different loads point, chose different dialog, everything.
But every time I walk out of the chapel there’s no Johnny but my vision stays blurry like I’m about to talk to him.
About to give up and wait a few month.
did all the tape worm missions but after search and destroy johnny never popped up any way to fix it

Cant progress after kidnapping the sister. 30 hours down the toilet. Don’t even want to start over in case this happens again.

Here’s where my problem comes in. After the mission “Transmission” with the Voodoo boys, after I kill them off I walk out of a church. And I didn’t get the cutscene you were supposed to get with Johnny after you walk out of the church. Now I can’t progress in the game and I have no my missions because of that. I tried going back to the church and walking out the doors to see if it would trigger it but it didn’t. Please help.
Same problem, I’ve gone to the elevator and had the talk with Johnny that I somehow missed. But then, no main jobs. Did a few side missions, walked around, but nothing. Figured F it and I went back to my Motel room save, then I realized that your supposed to see Johnny outside, after I’d watched a Tapeworm play through. I go outside the room, nada, just the “glitchy mode” that happens when the Samurai logo appears next to your health. They better fix this soon, I ain’t starting from scratch!
When will I come across the search and destroy and life during wartime I’ve already done transmission but not those ones
So I had the same issue with the conversation not triggering up until I went back to the elevator. After the conversation was over my feed updated, when I went to track the next main quest there weren’t any, No main quests were showing in my inventory….at all, not even on the map. The only quests showing are gigs and other non essential side quests such as purchasing a vehicle and what not. I’ve restarted the game, ive restarted my console and even had the game updated but nothing seems to be working. If you could help me figure this out that would be much appreciated, thank you!
I also got the same problem. After the search and destroy mission Johnny doesnt pop up and no more main mission appear on my journel. Can I fix this some ‘cuz I wanna finish the game and dont wanna play from the beginning
I’m having the exact same issue. Tried going to the other locations whene the conversations should take place, but no luck.
I hope either the next patch will fix it, or someone finds a solution…
Also having the same issue. Completed all 3 quests and had all conversations but because Johnny didn’t appear outside the motel room after Tapeworm, I have no way to continue the storyline. If anyone has a fix let us know please.

Hope they fix it. Just spend 10 hours on side jobs because I thought it was the problem… Does a patch coming soon to fix that awful bug???
Same things happening to me I can’t progress in the main story anymore might have to start from the beginning
This has been happening to my fiance and we could not figure out what the problem was and this solved it. We didn’t even have to ride the elevator, just got to where the elevator is and he appeared. Thank you so much!
